Since 1975, the Conference series has gathered Pacific governments, regional organisations, scientists, customary leaders and communities to set the region's nature conservation agenda.
Held approximately every five years since 1975, the Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation is the region's most important gathering for biodiversity policy and practice. Each Conference adopts a regional Framework that guides Pacific conservation work for the cycle ahead.
The first Pacific Islands Conference on National Parks and Reserves was convened in 1975 to provide a regional voice for Pacific biodiversity. The series later expanded into the Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation, reflecting the full breadth of Pacific ecosystems, threatened species, marine and terrestrial areas, and the connections between nature and Pacific cultures.
Delegates will adopt the next regional Framework for Nature Conservation 2026–2030 and a new Declaration.
